Sit And Listen To The Rain | 11:49 AM

Allow me a brief interlude from the story in progress because I have two things to mention.

On Sunday, the third straight day of rain in the D/FW area, I finally broke down and made an iTunes playlist of "rain" songs. Now I know people tune out when I talk about music on here, but there are a few select readers that actually like it. (Ok, maybe one. Maybe.) So what follows, before I get to the little nugget I got in my inbox this morning, is a listing of said songs. Discuss. Or not.

'Rain in the Summertime' - The Alarm
'Raining in Baltimore' - Counting Crows
'Rain' - Charlie Robison
'Another Song About the Rain' - Cracker
'Rainy Days and Mondays' (cover) - Cracker
'Baby Rain' - Echo and the Bunnymen
'A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall' (cover) - Edie Brickell
'Rainy Day' - Guster
'Fire and Rain' - James Taylor
'Happy When it Rains' - The Jesus and Mary Chain
'Rain on the Scarecrow' - John Mellencamp
'The Rain Song' - Led Zeppelin
'Blinding Sheets of Rain' - Old 97's
'Red Rain' - Peter Gabriel
'So. Central Rain (I'm Sorry)' - R.E.M.
'I'll Take the Rain' - R.E.M.
'Naked in the Rain' - Red Hot Chili Peppers
'City Rain, City Streets' - Ryan Adams
'Why Does it Always Rain On Me' - Travis
'Sit and Listen to the Rain' - Whiskeytown
'Blue Eyes Cryin' in the Rain' - Willie Nelson

Now that that is out of the way, let me get to the email I got this morning from my mom. It was one question. But it came from so far out in left field that I was left scratching my head.

Can you remember anyone at school who might have had a glass eye?

So ripe for witty replies... but the best I could come up with was "Sammy Davis Jr.?" I thought about asking, "Why? Did someone find one?" Yeah, I'm not at the top of my game this morning.

Happy Wednesday.

Sit around dream away the place I'm from
Used to feel so much, now I just feel numb
Could go out tonight but I ain't sure what for
Call a friend or two I don't know anymore

Sit and listen to the rain...

were you going for songs about rain you like? or ANY song with rain in the title? If the latter, you know there's a ton missing, right?

Sandy Duncan has a glass eye, too, if it helps with the witty banter

Lamont Schofield.

I have a glass eye, haven't seen it since 1983 at P. Hughes Middle School. Thought I threw it out on my lunch tray with my retainer (took it out to rinse it). Very traumatic....... Tell your mom thanks, and you should feel bad for making fun!

THat happened to me once, too, on a baseeball field;)

Lamont Schofield could well have grown up to be President of Jason Lee Elementary PTA. I have no idea.

"Rain at the Drive-In" by NRBQ

And, in memory of Barry Cowsill, who died in Hurricane Katrina, and his brother Bill, who died a few weeks ago, gotta mention "The Rain, The Park and Other Things" by the Cowsills. I can always embrace my inner 10-year-old (or was I 9???) ... I desperately wanted to be Susan Cowsill when i was a kid. Several years ago, I interviewed Paul Cowsill (his son pitched in the Angels organization) and I shared this tidbit with him. His response: "No, you would have hated it. We used to tear the heads off of her dolls."
