| i won't even try to make you anyway.
seventyninethousandthingstosay, but mostly i miss my life from when i knew anything about it. i have a job, and while that job is not a salaried "full time" job, the job takes up all of my time, and because i subscribe entirely to the nomenclature of things, this non-full-time name of this seemingly full-time job is keeping me in total denial, and believing that i've completely kept my vow to never work full time again. so that is why there have been no entries. here is an update for what i know: i am essentially over that thing that i haven't really been over for the last five years or so. i mean, over it as in i finally have some real-life distance from the situation, and cannot remember why i would not allow myself to get over it for so long. very silly, i think. i did a bad bad thing over christmas break which i can't actually talk about to anyone - not even the anonymous public. but i'm over that, too since it was a nice little mistake which we're going to ignore for the rest of our lives. and hopefully it did not destroy an entire lifetime's worth of friendness. there is no news on the relationship front. it is what it is. i'm still in the first half of the pathway to physical and fiscal / total awesomeness. i am still obsessed with sassy architect. we've reached a new level of sassing each other. lexical foreplay, as it were. i miss my friends from gradschool an obscene frickton. i miss my dad. it's that time of year. the day came and went, and it was whatever, but today i am sad in a way i have not been sad in a while. but that, too, will pass. i made some resolutions. or just very simple goals for 2008. and so, happy new year. more soon. love. |

there was a dream last night, involving epic, apocalyptic complex levels of death, destruction, and a grueling fight for survival. there were ever-expanding "real life" encounters revealing historical venn diagrams of our social and familial networks, conflated with a few television star cameo relationships. but there was a moment where i thought you were gone, done, demolished either physically or otherwise, and there was a note, that you wrote, that i'm guessing you believed would find its way to me and it said "i was only trying to love you this whole time." and i woke up today thinking for the first time in a long time that it's been a big mistake ... but that would only be true in the land of the actual dream. if you happened to be that guy, having the pre-death epiphany. and you're not. i've been watching a lot of night time drama, and would like to chalk up all the details of this dream to being triggered by some subplot, but the scenario strikes no resemblance to any of the 6 shows i follow. so... i just kind of wonder how you managed to get back into my brain by doing absolutely nothing. it is possible, however, that this whole thing is a result of the reprise of the xiu-xiu-sunset-rubdown-apistat-commander-repetition-compulsion-fest going on for the entire day, during my three and a half hour training session. ehhhh, could be. === completely unrelated: there is this. |

| so i know it's you and that it's over so i won't even try.
incidentally, i have been spending a lot of time at the apple store over the last couple of days, because this here computer's hard drive totally fried itself, and so i had to spend my weekend at the 'genius bar'. and i've realized that i have this extremely soft spot for naturally cute, however, detrimentally nerdy boys who can not only speak with authority about macintosh computers, but also make everyone who comes their way, as distraught as can be with fried pieces of machinery in hand, feel completely comfortable. the job screening process must be a treat for someone with the same tastes as myself. problem is, though, these boys -- all laid back, quick witted, incredibly patient, and 'knowledgeable' to boot -- as much as i adore them, am instantly smitten by them, i am just as amused to realize that they are in fact, the complete opposite of myself, so i could certainly never date them. and well, who wants to date an apple(tm) genius (tm) anyway? i shouldn't slam it, because one of my friends (really a friend's friend) is/was a genius as well, and he's pretty dope. but there certainly is a stigma ... at least on one end of the spectrum of the genius profile. let's be honest now. anyway, i can't seem to remember if there was anything crucial that i lost that lived on this computer. mostly, though, i think it is the histories -- the amount of remembering that my computers do for me. in addition to the sent mails that don't get saved to my online sent-box, i save all my ichats, and, my itunes library information, last-played and play-counts, date added info ... it's really astounding how much information of my life, my past, my time is not in fact stored in my mind, and how much i rely on my computer to tell me these things. must find a good back-up system for this information. perhaps i will make an appointment with a cute genius to do so. oh, also, travis is coming to NY in a little under 36 hours. this is going to be either totally awesome, or it will completely prove how very little i know about this very dense city ... and expose my fraudulent status of claiming to be a new yorker, even though my current area code is 201. we have an f-ton of things planned ... and i keep remembering an f-ton more. but if you have any suggestions for a "first time in NYC must see/do" do let me know. oh, also i started working with a personal trainer. this i highly recommend for anyone who's tired of sitting around all the time and for those who have the money because it is incredibly expensive. but i will tell you how this all goes another time, and all about my one-year plan -- since this is part of it ... and so is a 12am bedtime on training-nights, so ta! love, laura. |

i tried to reply the comment f.b. posted on my blog, but my own blog wouldn't let me. it said: your comment disappeared for a while or something. sorry for late reply. i didn't love minneapolis, but tonight i'm sitting in the bedroom i grew up in, in new jersey, talking online with my friend ... and talking about how compared to NYC i miss the social life i had in minneapolis. no pressure to do anything because there was nothing to do. but today, i'm faced with having to go to a birthday party at some totally socialite bar, and am considering not going because they inevitably going to turn my non-socialite self away from the door. boo. but back to your question, minneapolis as a city kind of creeped me out. i found it pretty boring, very college-ey, and annoying to get around. lots of people told me it was super-fun, great nightlife, etc, but those people happened to be my gay-male friends ... and minneapolis' most fun nightlife is pretty much comprised of the gay danceclubs ... because the rest of the city is filled with married or lived in couples who have settled for their very cheap realestate... cozy lives other than that they had lots of great rock shows and a fairly tolerable local music scene. thanks for dropping by!! |

| i go for mine, i got to shine.
while i've been sitting here for the last 20 minutes or so catching up on people's del.icio.us'd links, and remembering why i hate working on super boring fashion/retail accounts, i came up with three possible blog entry opening sentences which would invariably lead to three completely different blog entries. and while i was writing this little intro, i forgot the other two. so opening sentence is: I always thought I was talking about decadence. Truly.  (terence koh's black light, from the saatchi gallery website.)
But actually I don't really think I was ever talking about that. I think, in fact, I should have written a thesis on, not necessarily "goth" culture, because that's not at all what I'm interested in, clearly. But it's more about trying to find the connection between this adolescent longing -- heartache, this unrivaled feeling of (say it again, adolescent) loneliness that exists, and why it draws toward the particular aesthetic of the baroque. i mean, i kind of know that that's WHAT baroque style was -- supposed to be uber-emotional, big sweepy gestures --- but why does that translate into dramatic grandiose self-loathing/self-destruction ... in teenage kids from new jersey? if anyone has any good literature on the baroque and the abject and adolescence, then please send it my way. as an aside, i am going to try to start writing more comprehensive, and somewhat conclusive stuff soon ... maybe when i launch my new site. so yeah. no more drively nonsense. oh. the other opening sentence was going to apologize for the silly cryptic, overly dramatic, narcissistic super-romantic sentiments in the last few posts. i'm totally over that, i think. |

it would be awesome if in fact you loved me because of who i am, not because of what i do, because i realize now that what i do certainly doesn't have everything to do with who i am. and maybe i'd love you back for the same reason. he's one of us. and he's in pain. |
